Two astronomical phenomena - a full lunar eclipse and Supermoon – are going to occur on Mid-autumn Festival this year. A full lunar eclipse cannot be observed in China because it will take place during the day. Nevertheless, Chinese people are going to enjoy the biggest and roundest moon of this year on the night of Aug 16 in the Chinese lunar calendar. Skywatchers in North and South America, Africa, western Asia, the eastern Pacific region and Europe will have the chance to enjoy a total lunar eclipse on Supermoon night. This will be the first time that the two astronomical phenomena happen together in more than 30 years and will not come again until 18 years later.
