China´s top track and field star Liu Xiang announced his retirement on Sina Weibo Tuesday after being sidelined for more than two years in rehabilitation of an ankle surgery. In 2004 Athens Olympics, Liu tied the 12.91 seconds world record to claim the gold medal, before he set a new world mark of 12.88 in 2006 IAAF Grand Prix in Lausanne. In 2007 Osaka world championships, Liu reached the peak of his career, winning in 12.95 to wrap up the Grand Slam in this event.
